Associations and non-profits are increasingly instituting policies that allow employees to work from the location of their choice, and even hiring staff working in all regions of the country. That change also is driving a change in how managers lead their teams and train new employees. Malaika will facilitate a discussion on how to lead a dispersed workforce. She will use tips developed both from her previous career in the foreign service and her recent experience being hired while the office was fully remote.

Speaker: K. Malaika Walton, CAE

Malaika is a Senior Associate at Association Management Services (AMS), where she serves as the Membership and Program Director for the GridWise Alliance (GWA) and the Life Insurance Settlement Association (LISA). She is also the Operations Director for the Center for Baby and Adult Hygiene Products (BAHP).

Malaika has 20+ years’ experience developing and implementing global strategies and achieving strategic outcomes in associations, non-profit organizations, and the US Government. She thrives on collaborating with senior volunteer leadership to develop and operationalize vision and strategy, and has successfully implemented strategic and tactical initiatives, including focused outreach workshops, conference planning, membership drives and board election processes.

Prior to launching her non-profit career, Malaika served in the Foreign Service, with assignments in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and South Asia.

Malaika lives in Reston, VA. She is a proud dance mom who finds joy in the noise, crowds and enthusiasm of dance competitions. She is also an active volunteer in non-profit groups, including the Princeton Club of Washington, the Princeton Prize in Race Relations, AMPS, a non-profit organization supporting competitive dancers, and Coming to the Table.
