4-Gen Leadership: Thriving in a Multi-gen Workforce

Our world is being rocked by generational disruptions. Today’s business teams consist of four distinct generations — Boomers, the Gen Xers, the Millennials (also known as Gen Y), and the Gen Zers — and the generation gaps in teams have never been deeper or wider. Why do Boomers believe the surest way to success is through hard work? Why are Gen Xers the peace makers on teams? Why do Millennials want coaching, not management? Why do 80% of Gen Zers demand that company values align with their own personal values?

These are just some of the questions today’s business leaders are trying to understand as they lead their teams through a generationally diverse, post-COVID landscape. We will examine the characteristics of the four generations, how the generations formed, and the new generation gaps that have emerged with the advent of the internet-based society. We will briefly cover tips to recruit and retain these generations.
